Staying Cool in This Hot, Hot Heat

Hello sunshine.

It’s July now — peak summertime season. And if you’re doing it right, your days are filled with plenty of time outdoors and long, warm nights.

Unless you’re blessed with a constant coastal breeze, there’s probably been a few days when you’ve been on the verge of overheating. Great design solves problems. A few of our favorite cooling mechanisms for your outdoor space, below:

  1. A classic for a reason—the pool: feel like you’re always on vacation with a pool. I love going for early morning dips to start my day off on the right foot. The beautiful thing about pools is that they can be designed to match your aesthetic—they can be kid-friendly, minimalist, and everything in between.
  2. Fan it out: incorporating fans into the backyard does a fantastic job of circulating a cool breeze. Bonus: they also keep bugs away. If the heat is still too much to bear, look into evaporative coolers.
  3. Find shade: Whether you install a pergola or umbrellas, a bit of shade can go a long way. Done well, they can make the heat of the day feel welcoming.
  4. Be intentional about your space: paint your patio cooler, lighter colors so it doesn’t absorb heat. Add a rug to create a cooler walking surface. It’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

And, of course, be sure to always have a source of hydration within arms reach. Happy summer!
