Ten Ways to Style your Front Porch for Spring

There’s nothing like a gentle spring breeze lazily drifting into your home. It’s a much-needed  reminder to slow down and embrace the turning of the seasons. If your home has a front porch, this is the perfect time to freshen up that space. A few of our favorite ways to bring life into your home—

  1. New season, new door: There’s no better way to radically transform a space than painting the front door a bright color. We love seeing surprising shades like blues and yellows in the springtime. It’s hard not to smile when you see a vibrant door.
  2. Out with the old, in with the new: We’re pretty big fans of creating seasonal furniture collections. This means investing in a set for the cozier months—rooted in grounding colors—and a set for the warmer months—lighter shades. An easy way to do this is by using cushions and rugs as a means for expression. As these will be exposed to the elements, feel free to thrift these! You’ll find interesting and unique pieces this way.
  3. Create movement: A front porch that has movement is just divine. Whether that looks like installing a swing, hanging chimes, or bringing in birds with a feeders, literally invite spring into your home.
  4. Play with interesting lighting: The front of your house is a really fun place to play with more adventurous lighting. If you’ve been eyeing string lights, rattan fixtures, hanging lamps, or paper lanterns this is the place to experiment!
  5. Bring out the spring flowers: Show off your favorite or local flowers by planting them in raised garden beds, planter boxes, or hanging them on the porch. This is an easy way to bring color to your space!
  6. Go bold: In the springtime, bright colors are your friend. Find a color palette that suits your home and style, and go wild!
  7. Refresh existing pots and planters: There’s no need to buy everything new. If you have tired-looking planters, take the opportunity to give them a fresh coat of paint. We love a simple and fresh white-washed pot—this can easily be done in a few hours and makes a world of a difference.
  8. Make a spring wreath: Celebratory wreaths don’t have to be just for the holidays. Lean into this time of year and either create or buy a spring-time wreath.
  9. Bring out the welcome mat: Whether it has a charming saying or unique print, putting out a welcome mat shows the world that your home is inviting in more ways that one. You can have a lot of fun and creativity with the type of mat you choose. We enjoy sourcing from artisanal vendors for unique pieces.
  10. Spring Cleaning: You knew this one was coming. Before investing time or resources into a space, it’s worthwhile to deeply clean to know what you’re working with. Get rid of any stray foliage, say farewell dead plants, sweep, scrub, and make your front porch feels as good as new.
